  • The Education Minister visits St Colmcille's PS

    Thu 24 Mar 2022

Members of the Board of Governors had a very productive discussion with Mrs Michelle McIlveen, Education Minister, her officials, CCMS Representatives and local politicians about how to address the school's structural needs, traffic management issues and Irish Medium priorities.

We were delighted to have in attendance, our former pupil and MP; Miss Órfhlaith Begley with MLAs, Mr Declan McAleer and Mr Daniel McCrossan.

During her visit, Mrs McIlveen visited children in the Irish Medium Unit and Naíscoil. She praised the vibrant school, its commitment to outdoor education and was impressed by the musical talent in the school. She indicated that the Department of Education would work with CCMS, trustees and governors to address the school's long-term strategic priorities.

  • Pope Francis prays for peace in Ukraine

    Tue 01 Mar 2022

Pope Francis: “I invite everyone to make March 2, Ash Wednesday, a day of prayer and of fasting for peace in Ukraine.”

Pope Francis has joined the international chorus of concern over tensions stemming from a Russian troop buildup near its border with Ukraine, urging dialogue to resolve strains and avoid armed conflict.

The Roman Catholic pontiff told an audience of thousands at St. Peter's Square in the Vatican on December 12 that "weapons are not the path to take."

He said he was praying for "dear Ukraine, for all its churches and religious communities and for all of its people, so that tensions there are resolved through a serious international dialogue and not with weapons."
