SPORT & EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

St Colmcille’s P.S. aims to provide opportunities for pupils to develop a range of skills and a sense of achievement and satisfaction by taking part in individual, small group and team sports.

Pupils will be encouraged to continue their participation in sport out of school and into adult life, thus, contributing to an active healthy life-style. Children will be allocated between one and two hours of Physical Education per week, depending on the child's age.

The following sports and programmes are available in the school:

Athletics, Class Moves, Cross-country running, Gaelic football for girls and boys, Handball, Hurling, Rounders, Swimming and a range other events.

The school has a grass football pitch, running track, two outdoor tarmac playgrounds and a gymnasium which is also used by the school meals service. Pupils throughout the school participate in Irish Cultural activities such as Feiseanna, Credit Union Quiz, Handball, Mini-Sevens Football, Hurling and Camogie. Expert tuition is given to some of our pupils in Mandarin, orchestral music and our senior pupils participate in the school's choir.

All classes go on regular educational trips and throughout the year the school promotes entry to a number of competitions. The curriculum is also enhanced by visiting speakers with expert knowledge in a particular field eg. Public Health Officers, local artists, senior citizens, fire safety officers etc.
