    Mon 27 Jun 2022

Introducing Gadgeteers, Summer Reading Challenge 2022 - 25 June until 3 September 2022

Omagh Library is delighted to announce details of Gadgeteers, Summer Reading Challenge 2022 produced by The Reading Agency in partnership with Science Museum Group and delivered by libraries.

The Gadgeteers, Summer Reading Challenge, is a free, exciting way to keep young people reading during the summer months and takes place from 25 June until the 3 September.

Children’s reading can ‘dip’ during the long summer holidays if they do not have regular access to books and encouragement to read for pleasure. To help prevent this, young people aged 4 - 11 are invited to join the ‘Gadgeteers’ for a very special science-themed Challenge that will inspire them to use their imagination and creativity!

We need your help to encourage children to take part…

Promoting the Gadgeteers, Summer Reading Challenge 2022 within your school is one of the most effective ways of spreading the word so we would really appreciate it if you could tell your staff, pupils and parents about the Challenge and encourage them to sign up as a way of promoting reading for pleasure.

    How to get involved

Children are encouraged to spark their curiosity about the world around them by visiting and signing up in Omagh Library, setting their own reading goal and then reading any books they enjoy throughout the summer to collect special stickers and other rewards along the way – all for FREE.

    What is happening?

Lots of exciting events and activities will take place throughout the Challenge, both in the library and online. Find attached a poster - Summer Fun for Children - which lists the children’s events taking place in Omagh Library, and a flyer - Summer Reading Challenge flyer with Omagh events - which gives information about the challenge plus the events.  Feel free to print or add to a school platform.

There is a digital platform https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/ with amazing book recommendations, awesome rewards and plenty of fun ideas available here.

Everyone who completes their personal challenge will receive a certificate and medal.

    How to sign up

To sign up participants should call into Omagh Library, speak to a member of staff and then take home a Summer Reading Challenge activity pack along with some new books to read.

Thank you for your help in the past and we hope that you can share this information with staff, pupils and parents.

If you would like more information about this initiative you can email us at feedback@librariesni.org.uk or visit www.librariesni.org.uk.

ALSO don’t miss out on the fun of Storytrails taking place in Omagh Library on Fri 1 July and Sat 2 July.  Storytrails has captured untold local stories though augmented reality and everyone is invited to come along and not only view the results but participate by downloading an app and taking the trail round Omagh streets to learn more about local people and places.  You can tell your own story and have it recorded by library staff, you can get a 3D scan of yourself, take an Omagh selfie, or book in for a range of children’s activities ranging from a puppet show, to lego, to fighting plastic pollution, to storytime, to all things spider!  Full details are on the attached Omagh Storytrails Flyer.

    Happy Summer Reading!
