The School crest

Reflection on the school crest.

“In the name of the father, the son and the Holy Spirit”

Blessing ourselves is a prayer we say very often & it reminds us about who we are as Catholics, but did you know that The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all on the crest

God the Father

we know that God has always existed and will always exist, God has no beginning and no end, Like a circle. The circle is a repeated theme in the crest. The Name Bunscoil Naomh Colmcille An Charraig Mhór in blue. The yellow circle which forms part of the Celtic cross

And the Dove is shaped in a circle.

God the Son

is depicted as the Celtic cross because Jesus died on the cross.

The school crest was designed in the year 2000 and at that time the parish marked the occasion with the granite Celtic cross just outside the chapel and we decided to include this cross on our crest as well.

God the

Holy Spirit

is pictured as a Dove and also used as a symbol for confirmation

The dove is also a symbol for peace and of course, St Colmcille, our patron saint is also known as the dove of the church.

So when we wear the full school uniform, we are showing respect for what we believe in and the school crest, placed on your heart is also there to protect you.

You know that God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are with you every day as you wear the school uniform & when we see a child wearing our school crest, we know to treat them with dignity, love, respect and kindness.

In Ainm an Athair, agus an Mhic, agus an Spiorad Naomh, Aimean

This prospectus is intended to help inform you about the life and work of our school. It outlines the school’s ethos and what we stand for and the wide curriculum on offer to your child.

Parents may choose to have their children educated through the medium of English or Irish. The Irish Medium Unit opened in September 2003 for parents wishing to have their children educated through the medium of Irish. The development of our native language throughout the school and local community is an important objective and the unit plays a vital role is supporting  this.

Of course no booklet can convey the real atmosphere of a school.

If you would like to discuss the application process please contact Fiona, the school secretary to arrange an appointment as we will be only too pleased to meet you.
